In Asien hatte mich das Reisefieber gepackt – 1979, beim ersten Schnuppern in Sri Lanka. Zwei Jahre später erfüllte ich mir den Wunsch, noch mehr Asien zu erleben: Von Sri Lanka über Indien nach Nepal. Nach Burma und Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore und Indonesien, nach Hong Kong und in die Philippinen. 14 Monate genügten fürs Erste.
